Heart of a Woman

Women musicians Kit Holmes, Dana Clark and Wave Harless present songs that evoke what is common to every woman's life journey: love, family, healing, personal growth, relationships, empowerment, spirituality, and sexuality. In addition to their many original songs, they honor their musical foremothers by including colorful gems from the jazz and blues genres. The concert is designed to open our hearts to a deeper understanding of our lives, so that we may more clearly perceive our situations and discover new possibilities. There’s nothing like music to remind us of who we truly are and help us re-connect with important parts of ourselves that get pushed aside in our busy lives. Though the focus is one the woman’s perspective, these concerts are not for women only! Men who attend enjoy the atmosphere of freedom and vitality as women claim their full identity.
For the last two years this group has headlined the popular Women’s Retreats at U Bar U Retreat Center near Kerrville, Texas. A recent participant wrote: “I don't think I've ever heard music that had such transformative lyrics while being so musically groovy. I was very impressed and inspired.”
Group member Kit Holmes is a singer/songwriter who plays keyboard, guitar, and bass. She is a lifelong musician, composer, producer and sound engineer who found her niche sharing her songs and stories as a "spiritual being having a very human experience..." Humorous, sometimes irreverent and always deeply moving, Kit’s piano-driven original music will have you laughing, crying, dancing, and most of all, hanging on every word! Her jazz-influenced brand of “Urban Folk” brings warm, intelligent lyrics to smooth vocal chops over a bed of tasty harmony. Based in Austin, Texas, she has been racking up awards and lots of recognition since entering her first songwriting contest in 2004. Originally from the Midwest, she wrote the music and played the title role in a theatrical production entitled "Self-Made Man," the story of cross-dressing jazz musician Billy Tipton. Since 2007 she has been teaching others the principles that have guided her own journey of personal and spiritual growth. After an intense period of study, Kit has become a Licensed Spiritual Counselor through United Centers for Spiritual Living. Her wonderful new CD of original music, “Return to Love” was just released last month. Visit Kit at www.kitholmesmusic.com
Group member Wave Harless delivers the groove with drums and percussion. She is a Texas percussionist and recording artist with over 30 years experience. She has played with a wide variety of Central Texas samba, drum and dance groups, original folk/rock duos and bands, Kerrville Music Festival artists, and Christian music choirs. She is co-founder of both the Timekeepers Percussion Ensemble and the Texas Ladybugs women’s music group. A student of Cherokee teachings and spirituality, she has completed facilitators training with Arthur Hall of Santa Cruz, the pioneer father of community drum circles. She believes in the drum’s voice as a powerful tool for healing, self-empowerment, and community building.
