Dana Solo

Much as she loves performing with other musicians, Dana relishes those intimate evenings when she is alone with an audience.   She has an almost uncanny ability to sense the mood of the group as she follows her heart from one song to the next, each one creating a deeper rapport as she navigates the emotional landscape of the moment, using the subtle reactions of the audience as her guide.  Her songs paint pictures that range from tender to just plain goofy, giving her plenty of material to draw on.  She has an unshakable faith in the power of music to transform and empower us, and she sings the truth she knows straight from the heart.

During the course of a single concert she manages to accompany herself on piano, guitar, flute and mandolin.  No audience can resist her invitation to help create the music with her.  Beginning with call and response, she soon has perfect strangers weaving their voices in overlapping patterns, proving time and again her belief that as long as your heart is beating you have rhythm, and as long as you are breathing you’re a singer.

“Dana, I can’t believe I underestimated the power of what you do.  You’re just amazing.  For someone like me, who comes from a music background, it’s that much more amazing.  The way you connect with people, gosh, I am almost speechless.  And the unique way you can get non-singers to sing, without handouts, even—I’d never seen that sort of thing work that well before.  I am stunned.  You have unique talents.  PLUS a beautiful voice.”  Alyssa Burgin, Texans for Peace.
